Generally, mosquitoes have a pair of hair-like wings and halters. They have long legs and a small body. Although there is no specific size for the mosquitoes but the ideal size is about 15mm or less and a body weight of about 2.5 mg. Mosquitoes have strong withstanding abilities in contrast to their fragile look and the female can feed from different kinds of animals.
Most times crane flies are mistaken to be giant adult mosquitoes although they look alike and some people think they are male mosquito. Based on classification, crane flies are a different type of insect however related to the mosquito. They are just mere nuisance as the females don’t feed on blood.
The midges are specie of insects also mistaken for mosquitoes. They are closely related to the mosquito and are seen in large groups. Although the midges don’t feed on blood but some of them do bite. The major physical distinctive feature of the mosquitoes is the scales found on their wings and the entire body.
